Alice Charlotte WEFFEN / BURDEN's Life Story


1871 Census - Alice apears for the first time in a census - although she does not have a Christian name yet!!! and is shown as
------ WHIFFIN !!!! Under 1 Month - she is living with her Father Charles and his wife Charlotte in Organford shown as "Out" St Martins
This is how the outlying districts of Sandford were referred to - Charles is shown as a Farmer of 10 acres and there are two other daughters
Also living with them are a Henry and Ann Gunning shown as Charles' Father and Mother in law "Late Farmers"

1881 Census - Alice shown as a scholar aged 10 - her Father no longer a farmer but now a general labourer - Alice now one of 5 Daughters
A John BATH a retired blacksmith living with them as a lodger - The next prperty on the Schedule shown as Sanford House - this was the property
built by the person credited with the early development of Sandford

1891 Census - Alice living with her sister at her Uncle John GUNNING and his wife Selina's House - 20 Victoria Villas in Richmond Surrey
All shown on Census return as having been born in Lytchett Minster Dorset

1901 Census - Alice 30 living on her own in one room at 47 Rednall Terrace Hammersmith - she is shown as a Dressmaker working on her own
account at home - Shown as having been born in Wareham Dorset

1911 Census - Alice still unmarried back with her widowed Father Charles 69 - shown as Labourer in Garden - Alice is shown as Dressmaker
working at home as is her widowed sister Rose Stockley and her 2 year old daughter - The address is shown as Sandford Wareham

1911 - Alice's Father dies at the age of 70 and is buried in Wareham
