This fantastic photo is of Alfred in the army in India - apparently during the First
World War they tried to get as many of the regular troops in Europe as possible and
used the new recruits to "back fill" regulars drawn from overseas postings - this apparently
was how Alfred turned up in India
The photo is very carefully inscribed on the back "With Fondest Love From Your Loving Son Alf XXXX India 1915" - he would have been about twenty when this photograph was taken Alfred's World War 1 medal index card |
