Edwin / Edward BURDEN aka "Blind Burden" |
In 1888 he remarried a Henrietta Stickley - who brings a son with her from her previous marriage called Horace - who on the census is then recorded as "Horace Burden"
At some stage between the 1891 and the 1901 census Edwin has lost his sight
Have heard from a family member that the loss of sight was due to an unsuccessfull cataracht operation
In the 1911 census he has 4 "boarders" one of which is a Fred Hawkins
There is a WW1 Pension Record Card for Frederick who was a stoker on HMS Invincible
On the card Edward Burden of Upton is shown as his Foster Father
Frederick's Service Number was 112037 - he is shown as Other Ranks died
There is also another Record card for Widows and Dependants Other Ranks died
Which lists Edward - I presune Edward must have been classified as a dependant
and eligible for some sort of pension????
